ASSINFORM REPORT 2009 ON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY, TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND MULTIMEDIA CONTENT
The first Assinform Report dates back to the 1960s when information technology first started to develop in Italy. It has since followed the evolution of the Italian IT industry from its beginnings to the affirmation of mainframes. And has continued to do so accompanying the boom of the Personal Computer in the 80s and the market’s acceleration of the following decade, and so forth up to this day, which is characterised by the convergence among Information Technology and Telecommunications and new frontiers of applications on the Web. To follow the development of the ICT market in Italy through the Assinform Report allows to retrace the stages of a tumultuous and exciting evolution and to gain insight into its highlights.
Assinform is the national association of Information Technologycompanies operating in Italy. With its strong member base it represents a vital sector of the Italian economy: 193 direct members, 324 members affiliated via Associations in Ancona, Catania, Genoa and Turin and over 1000 indirect affiliates through the Patto Globale di Confindustria programme.
The association is a point of reference for Italian businesses of all sizes and specializations: from software companies, to systems and equipment manufacturers, providers of applications, networks and services as well as Value Added Service and Information Technologyrelated content providers.
Assinform is an important part of Sistema Confindustria: it is affiliated to Confindustria Servizi Innovativi e Tecnologici, broadening its reach and extending its vision to all aspects of digital innovation.
It carries out its mission along three lines of action: representation of the sector, providing invaluable services, creating occasions for exchanging ideas and dialogue among operators and businesses. In its representative role, Assinform acts as a bridge between the instances of the IT sector and the main economic, political and institutional forces in Italy.
Not only by upholding the rights of the industry and diffusing the instances put forth by businesses of the sector, but also by contributing to spreading knowledge on the challenges presented by the digital society and their impact and implications on the quality of life, research, training, services for citizens, business opportunities, employment and Italy’s role in the global scenario.
